Festival PerugiaAvailability good
The annual Eurochocolate Festival, the biggest chocolate festival in Europe, takes over the Umbrian city of Perugia for 10 days in October. The “Chocolate City” transforms into heaven for millions of chocolate lovers from all over the world. This year the festival is celebrating it's 25th anniversary!
Eugene Guarducci, creator of Eurochocolate, began developing the idea for this festival after a 1982 trip to Oktoberfest. The joyous atmosphere of the beer tents and the mass amounts of people coming together to celebrate a common passion inspired him to design a similar event for his hometown Perugia. In 1993, Guarducci’s dream was realized, except replacing beer with the ‘food of the gods’, chocolate.
Those attending the 25th edition of Eurochocolate will indulge in treats created by big name producers such as Perugina (makers of Baci), Lindt and Caffarel. Many chocolate-themed activities will be offered such as chocolate art displays and sculpting, chocolate tastings, performances, and even chocolate spa treatments.
In recent years, a life-sized igloo was constructed using almost 8,000 pounds of pure chocolate and the largest chocolate bar was created coming in at 23 feet long and 6.5 feet tall. Because of this year's theme it is quite possible that you will run into a gigantic chocolate set of headphones or chocolate in the shape of musical notes!
The Eurochocolate Festival runs for ten days. FlorenceForFun will run two day trips on October 21st and October 28th.
